SUPERSTITIONS

According to Merriam-Webster.com, SUPERSTITION is a belief or practice resulting from ignorance, fear of the unknown, trust in magic or chance, or a false conception of causation.

How do we explain what we don’t know or understand?  Since the beginning of time, man has tried to make sense of the world around him.  In the absence of science or verifiable fact, he created his own answers to decipher the world’s mysteries.  When people cling to these outdated customs and beliefs, despite scientific evidence to the contrary, they are entered into folklore as superstitions.

The purpose of this resource is to provide a broad, introductory insight into the topic of superstitions for 5-7th graders.
